You can control not only your character but also a whole team of mercenaries with different skills, stats and “talents”. Technically, the game has two separate battle systems: the Tactical battle system has an unlimited camera controls which are used for story-driven missions and instanced turn-based combat, which is used for PvP and other kinds of fights. The main feature of the project is a run-based combat system, which is quite unusual for an MMORPG.
Since the project has no pre-built classes, you also can customize the skill set and weapon of choice to create a character with a unique gameplay style.
Before you start the game, you will also have to decide on the appearance, name and gender of the hero. The playable hero of AO can be either descendant of the Atlantean nation or an ordinary hero regardless of the chosen race, you will have to save the world from the ancient threat.
